Every Girl Link-up: DIY Ornaments

Linking-up with Astleigh and Rachel for their final Every Girl Link-up of the year.  Today is "DIY Ornaments."  And the winner of the giveaway is announced at the bottom so keep reading!

Hill Collection

Our tree is not coordinated and it's only "style" is memory, if you can call it that.  Most of the ornaments on our Christmas tree are the keepsake variety.  I started the tradition in 2013 right after we got engaged.  We get one ornament to represent our relationship that year.

And then we pick-up ornaments from special trips that we take.  I love this tradition because I know years and years and years from now we can look back at them and remember the special memories.

We also have handmade ornaments on our tree too.  Last year we went to a paint your own pottery place in the neighborhood for a date and came back with these.

It would be fun to make that a tradition but we simply don't have the time this year and sometimes the pressure of keeping a tradition is just too stressful.

But we did paint some ornaments during one of our "Unplug" from devices nights.  I picked the wooden snowflakes up this summer at a craft store and we used acrylic paint to make them unique.  A little string and they fit perfectly on our tree.

Some did not have a good area to loop the string so I plan on attaching a magnet to the back of those and add to our refrigerator.

And finally, the real deal DIY ornaments we've been working on are the felt characters that Terri Mom showed us how to make over Thanksgiving.  So simple, fun, and addictive.  All you need is felt, embroidery floss, and simple hand sewing skills.  You can keep them just as thick as the piece of felt like this one:

Or you can make them more "plush" by sandwiching a another layer of felt or batting into the middle and attaching the pieces together with a blanket stitch.  See below:

So fun and so many possibilities.  Look at the set of hedgehogs that Terri Mom made us!

And Dan made this snowman.  If Dan can do it, SO CAN YOU!

I am currently making these snowmen faces for coworkers.  So easy!

Now, I may get into trouble for sharing these because my twin sister Mandy is the queen of felt crafting and she is sort of possessive of it.  But, sorry Boo, you don't own felt and I'm only doing these ornaments nothing else.

And last but not least!!!  The winner of the very first ever giveaway on this blog is Reba!!  Your hedgehog nativity set is headed your way today!

Only four people entered the giveaway...like I said, only like 12 people read this blog but I was happy to see who did enter.  Hi Aunt Kandi!  And cousin Gail!!! I didn't even know you read this blog!  Hi! And Whitney!  Thank you all for entering.  I means a lot to us that people take time to stop-by our corner of the web world.
