Peeks from the Week

We are headed into a long holiday weekend and off to Kansas tomorrow. Wish us luck with a squirmy, sleep deprived Kip on two flights!!!

This week was pretty uneventful. Kip got his first cold on Tuesday which was shocking that it took this long given how much exposure he has had. He's handled it pretty well and I loved how willing he was to just chill out on my lap.

Tuesday night started a little rough and he was only able to sleep in 40-60 minute segments in the early evening. So Dan and I took him out in the stroller for some fresh cool air and a reset. I was bummed that he was sick but it was AMAZING to get out of the apartment in the early evening for a sunset walk. Dan and I used to do this almost nightly before Kip arrived and since his bedtime is so early now we've really missed it. Kip didn't end up falling asleep on the walk but once we got home he was out for the night.

Kip rallied on Wednesday and by Thursday his was fever free and back to his regular self. Dan's cousins were in the city from North Carolina and came by for pizza last night. Kip managed to stay up past his bedtime and after he warmed-up to them he had a blast with all the attention.

Tonight will be a packing scramble and then one lonnnnnng day of travel tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it but the destination will be worth it. I'm excited to see how Kip reacts to his first Kansas summer. We will also be celebrating Dan's 33rd birthday on Sunday!!!

Baby Face

It seems like every week someone will say something like, "wow, Kip is looking so much like Dan now." And then later that same day someone will say, "he looks just like you, Steph."

Which is it? To me, he just looks like Kip. But it seemed fun to try and compare photos for resemblance.

STEPH

KIP

DAN

What do you think? One thing is for sure, Kip has far less hair than both Dan or I had at his age.

Night Night Mommy, Part II

Dan is still sending me his sweet little pictures of Kippy as he puts him down for bed on the nights that I'm at work. I look forward to this little text every Tuesday and Thursday night.

Weekending It

Better late than never, eh?

This weekend finally felt like summer. Truly, they said on the news that this past weekend was the first weekend since APRIL that we had sunny weather on both Saturday and Sunday. Man, we've been waiting forever and it couldn't have come at a better time because...Auntie Jessy came for a visit!!!!

I'm really loving how frequently we get family visitors now with Kip around. I mean, everyone usually came for a visit at least once a year but now it seems like we've got grandparents or my sister every other month. What a treat!

With Jess in town we decided to hop on the ferry and spend the day at Governor's Island. It was a PERFECT summer day. Hot but not humid and breezy for the perfect relief. Kip was a little restless on the ferry ride after awhile (they changed the route and it was much longer than last year) but otherwise a great ride.

Once we got off the ferry we strolled around and then fed Kip before renting a surry bike and peddling around the island.

Kip in a helmet! Ha!!

Then we found some chairs in the shade and ate lunch from the food trucks.

We happened to visit the same weekend there was a Jazz Age Lawn party on the island so there were a TON of people dressed in 1920s style dress which was kind of fun to see. We strolled around some more, got an afternoon treat, watched a 1920s style dance performance, and then hopped back on the ferry home.

That night Jess and Mandy watched Kippy so I could take Dan out to dinner for a Father's Day date. It was a really nice evening. We got dinner at our favorite taco place and then went for a long walk. We've really missed our freedom to go out on evening walks so this was a perfect way to add to the date. We grabbed some ice cream before coming home and watching something with Mandy and Jess before bed.

On Sunday, Dan went to church early to do set-up and us girls took Kip out for brunch.

Sunday was a scorcher so we stayed inside most of the day. Mandy headed home early afternoon and once Dan got back from church, Jess, Dan, and I went for a walk to get bubble tea. We had a quick dinner before Jess left for her flight and we did chores the rest of the night.

Check my post from Friday for a Father's Day tribute.

It was a really sweet weekend and a great visit with Auntie Jess. And we'll see her again soon!

Father's Day

Just popping in here, ahead of Father's Day, to share some pictures of my two favorite guys.

Dan is such a loving and attentive father. While he may have had to learn a lot in the early days (he had never held a newborn or changed a diaper to his knowledge), he has come a long way in the last 10 months. Growing and changing just as much as Kip. I knew from the moment I met him that he would be a good dad. He is just so patient and genuinely kind and I think young kids can pick-up on that and gravitate to him. He is imaginative and playful and still very much a kid at heart.

I've told Dan that one of the most attractive things to me is when I'm in the other room and I catch a glimpse or overhear him playing with Kippy. Constructing towers and narrating some scene or game. They have a special bond which I am so excited to witness as it grows. If there is one single thing I hope for Kip's future, it's that he is like his dad. I have many faults and Dan isn't perfect either, but at his core, he has a pure heart. He is compassionate and sensitive. He is humble and trustworthy. He sees the good in others and believes that goodness, despite when things happen to question that character. He loves me on my worst days and he tries, more than anyone I know, to exemplify the sacrificial love of Jesus.

We love you Dan and we're so glad you're ours. Happy Father's Day.
