One Year Anniversary

Wow! A post on a Sunday!!

Exactly one week ago, August 30, 2015, Dan and I celebrated our one year marriage anniversary.

Since I spent the whole week blogging about our Wildwood trip, I didn't want too much  time to pass before documenting that special day.

In so many ways we filled this first year to the brim with memories both good and hard.  In other ways it feels like it flew by - a quick breeze.  Neither of us really knew quite what to expect about married life and we were naive in so so so many ways.  But we figured it out, taking each day at a time, making routines together and snuggling-in quite nicely.  Both of us agree this newlywed year was a blast.

We aren't ones for a lot of pomp and circumstance but still wanted the day to be fun.  Since the 30th fell on a Sunday, Dan treated me to a day without church responsibilities.  This NEVER happens.  If we are in town on Sunday, we are at church.  We had a hard summer with looong Sundays filled with commitments.  It was nice to have one lazy Sunday.

We re-read our vows first thing in the morning.  Cheers for us!  We managed to re-read our vows every month for the whole year.  Dan got the originals laminated so hopefully we can keep-up the tradition.  Then he went out and got my favorite donuts for breakfast.  Then, sadly, we spent the first part of the day at our local urgent care thanks to my chronic yeast infections (sorry tmi).  But once we got that out of the way we went to Outback Steakhouse.  We had been craving steak without the expense and ended up getting a great deal at Outback.  Salad, steak, potato, and dessert for only $20 per person.  Woot!  It hit the spot.

Then Dan had the great idea to go paint some pottery at a local studio.  We've done this before but never painting something together.  We chose an oversize serving plate and wrote our marriage scripture on the front.  Hope it turns out well!  We'll pick it up today, reveal soon.

The rest of the day we lounged and relaxed which is what we love to do most when we're together.  Our relationship has a nice balance of go-go-go adventures and couch potato slugging.

That night we walked to the pier and said a little prayer for this coming year of marriage - our hopes and dreams for year two.  Then we tossed one of our leftover favors from the wedding (squished pennies) into the ocean (we took it out of the packaging so it wasn't litter).

We've been loved on a lot from family.  All sending cards and some gifts too!

Mandy sent all the necessities for us to recreate our wedding cake.  I'll be making that today.

Jess sent this cute magnetic canvas which matches perfectly in our entryway and makes a nice home for our strip photo collection.

Dan and I were both quite surprised by all the cards and gifts on our one year.  Thanks everyone for your fabulous generosity and kindness!!

I was thinking the other day how we never go on dates but then I realized that every single day spent together is a date.  At this current time in our relationship it's just the two of us and that makes it a date.

Stay tuned for our one-year check-up survey.  Our six month is back here
