WHAT? A post on a Monday? Wild.
We've had a trend of crummy weather weekends lately which is a real drag. Or just inconsistent weather in general. I still have my winter coat out and that's a really not cool to still have around in May. Seems like we never have more one day of sunshine at a time followed by 2-3 days of cold or rain.
Saturday was our decent weather day and started off with soccer. Ivy enjoyed her drills practice with Dan tagging along.
While I watched Kip. He played really hard for a full hour. This soccer league doesn't play against other teams but rather breaks up all the kids into different groups and they scrimmage each other and then shuffle kids around. So there are anywhere from 2-4 games happening with 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5 depending on how many kids show up. For the first game Kip had some good attempts and was well matched but then they moved him to a different group for some reason and he was stuck with the group of really skilled players and he was a full foot shorter than most of them. He tried really hard and I was proud of him for sticking with it but it was hard to watch. The group on the field next to him was more his size and everyone was getting shots and feeling confident. Poor Kip kept missing passes or getting the ball stolen because the other players were just better. Trail by fire, but for a kid like Kip...it just pushes him to discouragement.
After soccer we went out to lunch at Ho'Brah which was my favorite restaurant in Bay Ridge and they have a location in Staten Island not too far from us. It was a disappointing and I fear it was our last time going there. We've given it multiple tries in the last year and every time it drops a little bit more.
Then Kip got a haircut. And it was our last time going to this kids place as well. He's getting too big for the car chairs and they keep messing up his hair. Plus it's expensive. Sigh.
Ivy demanded the "kids get Sonic" after the haircut so we stopped and got them grape slushes. All the flavoring was floating at the top and not mixed into the ice. Y'all, I'm so tired of paying for garbage. No one gives any effort anymore.
We knew the weather on Sunday was garbage and so we tried to celebrate Mother's Day early but everything was falling flat. So we went to McDonald's for dinner and ate it in the car.
On Sunday, it rained. We went to church and then spent the rest of the day doing typical Sunday chores. But, I'm trying to turn my frown upside down because there is a lot to be grateful for in life. I got to sleep in a little and Dan and Mandy and Jess all gave me some nice gifts and cards. And Kip made some super sweet cards at school.
Plus, he drew my portrait with Ivy!
That's a keeper!
We've got the kids hooked on Star Wars and...you know what...miracles exist. I do believe I'm starting to get the whole Star Wars appeal. Dan made me watch them all years ago and I think I fell asleep in half of them. They all felt like the same movie to me. But, now, watching with the kids I'm having to narrate and explain a lot which is forcing me to understand the story and I kinda like it. Plus, it's adorable to hear Ivy say "Jar Jar Binks" and "Wookie." Dan's not mad about their interest!
And to all the moms and mother figures in my life and in the lives of my kids, thank you for all that you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The world knows you carry it all.
Okay, I have to say it. Why on earth would a school have a child guess their mother's weight?! So many other (adorable) options for things to guess, and potentially very awkward for a mother who is uncomfortable with her weight or appearance.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great Mom you are. I love you, Poppa
