I know I've been saying I'd talk about it and then I guess I never did. So today, I'm talking about the kids ninja gym classes. In the fall, Mandy signed the kids up for Ninja Gym classes at a local gymnastics/dance place. Think of the American Ninja Warrior show but miniature. It's sort of like tumbling/gymnastics without the formality and routines and more of the trampoline obstacle course type stuff. Kip and Ivy both LOVE it.
For the first couple of months, Ivy was in a parent-child class so we were able to get some closer pictures since someone was in the gym with her. She aged out of that class quickly and is now in a class on her own. It's great gross motor exposure for her and a perfect transition out of PT into regularly practicing skills that help her work on strengthening jumping and running as well as pushing through her physical limitations caused by her hypotonia. It's also fantastic social exposure.
Kip is in a class of peers his age, boys and girls and he thrives in this class. It's not competitive at all so they each get to run the course and try out cool things like rope swinging and trampoline tracks. It's a great place for him to run off energy and get the full-body sensory stimulation he craves.
We can only take photos of him through the observation window so it's a little more difficult to get pictures of his class.
Mandy has also taken them to various open gym times where they get to explore the equipment without a class structure.
It's a full body type of activity and offers a lot of variety from the warp wall, to the trampolines, different obstacle courses, bars, etc. They both look forward to it every week.
Thanks Mimi for gifting them this experience!
