Weekending it

It's August! We are at the midway point of summer break. Although this last month always speeds by and we have loads of stuff already planned, I'm trying my best to remind myself that there is plenty of time still left to enjoy the season. Birthday week ahead, a visit from Aunt Jagee, trip to Kansas, and other fun day trips. Lots to do!

We had a heat wave last week so we hit-up the pool a couple of times. We discovered it's quite fun to pack dinner or lunch and eat it poolside. Kip is doing AWESOME with swimming and is practicing doggy paddling without a floaty as well as putting his head under water!

Dan and I went on a date Saturday night to see the movie Oppenheimer. We both liked it although it was a bit hard to follow at points. We got dinner afterwards and did some quick birthday shopping at Five Below. It's been a long time since we've done a legitimate date. It was fun! Thanks for watching the kids, Mandy!

On Sunday, the heat broke and it was a gorgeous and comfortable day so we decided to check a box on our summer bucket list and head to the city for a day-venture! We drove to Staten Island and then rode the ferry boat to the Battery. We spent the rest of the day park hopping around lower Manhattan and had a blast.

First stop was Battery Park Playground.

Followed by a ride on the Seaglass Carousel.

The last time Kip rode on this, he was just a lil baby!!! My heart.

Then we walked over to the Rector Street Playground.

Stopped for lunch at my office building and then hit up another fun park by the waterfront.

I wanted to take the kids to a cool store called the Balloon Saloon but it was closed so we stopped at a different toy store and let them each pick something small.

Then we walked back towards the ferry, stopped for a bubble tea break, and let Ivy snooze for a bit while Kip chased the flying rodents (aka - pigeons).

Then we rode the tourist-packed ferry back to Staten Island.

We did some shopping at the outlet mall by the ferry terminal, grabbed Shake Shack for dinner, and then headed home.

It was a FULL and exhausting day but we all had fun. And I think this is the first time Ivy has been into Manhattan since she was born and the first time Kip has been back post-pandemic. These little city babies still know how to hang!

  1. How fun! I'm so glad you had a date, and the city day-venture looks like it was so wonderful! Our kiddos start back to school next week-- how different our school calendars are!
