Kip || 6 Years Old

Today by little baby boy who blasted into our world with the force of a thousand firecrackers is SIX YEARS OLD!!!!

Kipling 6 Years
Weight: 46.12 lbs. (45 lbs. at 5 1/2 years)
Height: 45.47 in. (45 in. at 5 1/2 years)
Personality: Thinker and Creator

Kip has been eagerly awaiting his birthday for a full year now. Each month closer, anxiously counting the days until he gets a table full of presents. The day is finally here! He is six years old and entering the next level of the big kid years. Year five was truly epic and we expect year six to be just as spectacular. We aren't doing a birthday party with friends this year but we have lots of fun activities planned in the next couple of weeks to carry the celebration of our King Kip all month long.

Milestones for Kip by age 6,
Official Reader
Math wiz
Started soccer
Chore chart/earning allowance
Finally putting face/head in the water
Learned to spit (as in spitting toothpaste out inside of ingesting it)
Listening to chapter books
Doggy-paddle swimming without a floaty

School
Kip had a truly formative kindergarten year. He is reading fluently and understanding basic math concepts. He is a diligent and hard worker, even though he struggles with perfectionism and motivating to try new things. Kip has always had an analytical brain and we know he enjoys learning but pretends he doesn't. He thrives in a classroom environment surrounded by peers and constant stimulation. He feels intimidated about starting first grade but he is indeed excited to be one of the big kids.

Social
Always our social guy, Kip is a true extrovert. He is energized by other people and places and activity. However, being raised by introverts, he also appreciates simple play time at home or just being with his family. He has many friends and plays with everyone. Ivy is his playmate of choice right now and the two of them are really good buddies this summer.

Interests
Kip's main interests right now are Legos and money and how to get more money to get more Legos. He is kind of obsessed with money and always trying to spin something into a business opportunity to make money. Lemonade stand. Train layouts. Making cards to sell door-to-door. Scheming ways to sell our garden produce. He is desperate to have Dan take him to the bank to exchange his coins into usable cash and he has his eyes set on using his money to purchase all the Lego train sets. The Lego trains sets are expensive. Thus, the fixation on money. Kip often has a one-track mind and that track always has a train on it.

Other things Kip loves right now:
Running
The color blue (royal blue - not dark blue)
Bald eagles
Gardening/growing plants
Playing with water
Crafting (using scissors and tape)
Trying to trick Dan into eating chocolate
Listening to chapter books
Bounce houses
Wearing bow ties
Identifying himself as an artist - not a sports guy.

Things to Remember about Kip as a 5 year old:
Bow tie collection
Buying school lunch
Looking at train catalogs with mom
Rode a pony for the first time
Bedtime chats with mom
Lemonade Stand/Amazing Train Layout
First time bowling
Movies he re-watched over and over: Trolls, Trolls World Tour, Robots, Mega Mind, Horton Hears a Who, and Dennis the Menace
His worky shirt and bow-tie combinations

Being part of Kip's life as he grows into this unique little boy is such a wonder to behold and something I never could have anticipated when he was first born. When you're in that baby phase and then the toddler phase, it is so much about survival. The little kid phase is like watching a rough rock be slowly refined into gold. Their personality unfolds before you and they begin to see themselves as part of a bigger world outside of themselves. It's incredible. I am so grateful for everything he has taught me about himself and about being his mom. I love you, Bud, keep being your unique and wonderful self.

Happy 6th Birthday.
