Weekending it

We're tucking another full and exhausting summer weekend under our belts.

On Friday Dan and I met-up after work to try a new-for-us restaurant in the neighborhood called Campania.  It's an Italian place with an emphasis on the wood burning pizza.  It was really yummy and we got in the door just before the dinner rush.  We shared a Cesar salad and a meatball pizza, big enough for leftovers.  For dessert we got this caramel cone thing filled with cheesecake.  It was delicious.

Our summer bucket list has "try two new restaurants" so this counts as one.  Check!

Saturday was a classic case of  being double booked.  At the beginning of last week when the weather was forecasting a heatwave we thought Saturday would be a perfect beach day...the one we've been trying to schedule all summer.  Then on Tuesday Dan reminded me we had Couples Club brunch at noon so we dropped the beach idea.  Mid-week my friend texted me about seeing me Saturday at the "soccer game" and I was like "huh? what are you talking about?"  Then she reminded me that Dan and I paid for tickets at the beginning of June to go to a soccer game a Yankee Stadium.  Oh yeah, totally forgot to put that one on the calendar. Oops. Rather than canceling anything and potentially disappointing anyone (because I can't stand that) we made a plan to make everything work.

We headed to Couples Club brunch which was delicious and featured a homemade chocolate chocolate cake for a combined birthday celebration for Lynn and me.

Towards the end of brunch, Dan and I called for a car service to take us to Yankee Stadium.  The only way we were able to do the brunch and still make the soccer game was to skip public transportation and pay for a car.  The car was 20 minutes late picking us up and plus traffic we were still late to the game and it cost us $65.  Gulp.  But we made it to both commitments and no one was disappointed in us. That's what counts.

The soccer game was actually extremely entertaining.  This was the inaugural year for the NYC FC (Football Club) and they were playing against Montreal.  The stadium was packed and the fans were so into it.  Dan got some great video of one of the goals.

NYC lost but it was a close and eventful game.  So glad we went.

We took the subways back and in typical weekend train chaos we ended up having to get on five different subways before we finally made it home.  Ugh.

On Sunday we lugged the bikes on the subway, carrying them up and down five flights of steps.  We rode the ferry to Governor's Island and joined what seemed like the entire Hasidic community biking around the island for the afternoon.  We got ice cream and Starbucks. We returned tired but glad we checked the bike ride and Governor's Island trip off our summer bucket list.

We ended the weekend by watching Enemy at the Gate and some Great British Bake-Off on youtube.

Now, on to Monday.
