Weekending it

The last several weekends have felt so full and fun and I am glad that Dan and I have been able to soak-up summer so far.  Last summer just really didn't feel summery and I am determined to feel the opposite this year.  So far so good.

This 4th of July was a blast.  We lazed around all morning, had cinnamon rolls in bed while watching TV until the late morning.

In the afternoon we headed over to celebrate the 2nd birthday of one of the little girls at church.  Her older brother is in my Pre-k/Kinder class on Sunday mornings and both of them were thrilled to have the attention of Dan and me.

After some food and cupcakes, Dan and I headed to Coney Island.  We got really fortunate and the rainy overcast weather moved out and we had sunshine and blue skies.

We stopped to explore the art walls they installed in a previously vacant lot near the boardwalk.

Then we sat on the beach for a bit but didn't go near the frigid water.

The reason we went to Coney Island on the 4th, despite the crowds, was because we got tickets to watch the Brooklyn minor league baseball team, the Cyclones, and then have crowd free seats to view the fireworks.  Also, it was on our summer bucket list.

The game was lame but the view and the food were great.  Yummy - Nathan's Famous

Unfortunately the game ended really early and we had to wait for an hour before the fireworks started.  We killed time by playing War and taking pictures.

The boardwalk slowly filled up and I was SO happy we had nice high seats without pushing crowds. Best $10 ever spent.  It's hard to tell in the pic below but the boardwalk was literally packed.

The fireworks were directly in front of us and with the iconic parachute drop right next to us it was picture perfect.

In the five years I have lived in NYC I have never ventured to see any actual firework shows because I don't care enough to deal with the crowds.  Although we had massive crowds getting into the subway on the way home, it was worth it.   Enjoy the video.
