Kippy || 2 1/2 Years Old

Kippy turned 2 1/2 on Monday. I can't believe he is almost 3!!! He is no more a baby and already headed towards the second half of toddler hood. These next 6 months will be filled with big transitions and while I know it's just a normal part of growing up, I can't help but miss his squishy baby chub and open-mouth slobber kisses. On the plus side, he is talking up a storm and his imagination is really taking off and that is so fun to witness.

Kipling at 2 1/2 Years
Weight: 30 lbs. 11 oz. (28 lbs. at 2 years)
Height: 37.99 inches (35 inches at 2 years)
Personality: Flipping cutest thing ever

Sleep
See my recent post for the big bed transition but Kip is now sleeping exclusively in his bed! He goes to bed around 6 pm still and gets up with his OK to Wake clock at 6 am. He still naps once a day around 9:30/10 am for about an hour and a half or two hours. He is still firmly attached to the pacifier (see photo above). Lord help us.

Eat
This child is a diary cow. He drinks so much milk and eats so much yogurt that I had to ask the doctor on Monday to check for iron deficiency because we thought maybe his sleep issues were due to lack of iron absorption (apparently 30 oz of cows milk a day is too much). Fortunately everything checked-out fine but he would probably only consume dairy and applesauce if we let him. Some of his other favorites include bagels, peanut butter waffles, dill pickles, ice (popsicles), and a varied assortment of bars. He likes broccoli and cucumbers and he loves dried strawberries and raisins. Ohh, and chips...obviously, he is my child. We did discover the other week that he is finally getting his 2-year-old molars so that has been interfering his appetite as well.

Play
Gosh I love to watch Kip play. Since turning two he has become more and more exclusively obsessed with cars and now trains. He loves his wood train set, he loves matchbox cars, he loves Lego trains and cars, and basically anything with wheels. A few weeks ago he discovered the trash can in the kitchen has wheels and he said "hey, dos wheels?" and then pulled the trash can out and was into playing with that for awhile too. He stopped watching a lot of his favorite movies and switched to shows on Amazon called "Lots and Lots of Really Big Trains" as well as Thomas & Friends and Titipo (a Japanese animated train show). He also will play with his baby doll, magnetic tiles, Legos, puzzles, play doh, and coloring. He got a little play house for Christmas and has started doing some imaginative play with that as well. But most days, he is content to just push his trains and cars across the table, for hours.

He also LOVES to go to the playgrounds and especially loves it when other kids want to play with him.

At the doctor on Monday, she asked him if he liked books and he said flatly, "no." And that is a true statement. He has loads of books and we do read to him but he has never been that kid that wants to be read to over and over again. I'm sure it will click eventually but for now, unless it has wheels you'd be hard pressed to get him engaged in it.

Talk
We noticed Kip picking up more language around the holidays. He started repeating more things to us and in the last month he's carried on full conversations. It's probably one of the most amazing things to witness in terms of development so far. I mean, learning to walk was pretty cool but being able to recognize people, say their names, and talk to them about something is astounding. Sometimes milestones happen so gradually that you kind of miss them but with Kip's talking it really felt like a kind of overnight explosion. I know I've said on here is speech was exploding but compared to the last month, those were blips. And he remembers things too! Stuff that happened weeks ago he will casually mention to us or he will play a game we haven't played in awhile with full recall of how we did it. The other day he pulled out one of his MANY matchbox cars and said to me, "Grandma house." And I said, "That's right! You got that at Grandma's house." Some of my favorite things he says is "how about..." if he wants something. "How about a yogurt?" "How about a show?" "How about a green ma (applesauce)?" I also love that he usually says "okay" for an affirmative response. He has still never said the word "yes" but he says, "okay" all the time. The other week Dan got Kip singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on video and it about the cutest thing in the world.

Our next big jump is potty training and then the arrival of baby sister and shortly after he turns three he will be headed to preschool! We just got his acceptance letter in the mail last week and I am so excited for him to be in a learning environment with other kids. He is so social and I know he will adore school.

I hope the next six months go by slowly and the next three months we are able to soak-in time together as just a family of three before baby arrives and shakes our world for the better.

  1. Such a fun post! Noah also watches Titipo and there's a police car version called Robo Car Poli on Netflix and a show called Tayo if Kip needed some new show options. :)

    1. We've watched Tayo and Robo Car! Some of the characters overlap in those shows which is fun.
