Weekending it

The weekend always seems to be one day short of "enough" time away from work.  Saturday came and went and although the plan was to start major packing, all we got done was picking-up boxes from a friend.

Saturday night we headed into the city for cousins Kaleigh and Kourtney's birthday party.  It was at a German restaurant with huge picnic tables.  The food was great and really affordable.  It was a nice time seeing K&K and meeting some of their friends.  We hit subway luck and got home in record time.

Yesterday was our last Sunday at our church for two months.  Dan has been serving at Crossroads for eight years and earned a two month sabbatical.  He has been working so hard the last couple of weeks to get everything organized and handed off to be gone until July.  I was overwhelmed with him in that process.  You sort of forget about how much you are doing until you have to write it all down and make sure everything is covered for you to be away.  At the end of service and tear-down we just left.  Walked away like any other Sunday.   I didn't want it to feel anticlimactic for Dan because we felt like it was a big deal.  If you figure there are 52 Sundays a year, I would venture a guess that Dan hasn't missed more than a handful every year in the last eight years.  That's a lot of Sundays.

I'm so proud of him and all the work he has done and everything he has sacrificed, always with the best attitude and heart, always pushing through the circumstances.  I wanted him to feel uplifted and supported and just a tiny bit celebrated. So, I took him out to lunch and gave him a three pound bag of Jolly Ranchers (his fave) for a treat.  We vegged the entire rest of the day.

Today the sun and warmer weather returned for more than just a few hours, and for that our souls are grateful.

  1. What plans do you have for the Sabbatical? So awesome that Dan gets a well-deserved break!
