Happy first day of November. The weather plummeted and it really feels like winter suddenly. I think based on the mild winter we had last year and the amount of rain we've had this fall, we're in for a rough winter season. Eek!
I hope everyone had a festive Halloween! We had a great day. This year Ivy and Kip picked their costumes back in September and did not stray from their selection. So I present to you, a baby unicorn and a blue dragon. Details are important!
In the morning, Kip had his costume parade at school that Dan and I went to with Ivy. Ivy insisted on wearing her costume and got all kinds of gushing comments from teachers and students as they passed by her.
We saw our fierce blue dragon walk and wave.
Since I am not a class parent this year, I did not get to participate in the class party. This was a bummer but I was grateful to not have the stress or the financial burden. Kip said the party was fast and it sounded like it was very mellow. No sugary treats (just popcorn and pretzels) and no wild games (just an apple taste test activity and coloring). I'm hoping the class parents will share photos. Kip had a half day of school, so it was nice to have some down-time before going out for trick-or-treating.
Mandy got home from work early and we took the kids around to the neighbors we are most familiar with and got invited into our next door neighbor's house for extra special goodie bags they put together just for the kids. We love them.
Side story: When we headed out, we left a bowl of candy out which a group of teenagers promptly emptied.
Mandy confronted them (she is brave) and a couple of the girls
apologized. We later saw the group emptying another bowl and they turned
around and opened their backpack for our kids to pick from their
overflowing loot. Ahh, teenagers. Caught in that immature limbo of still
being a kid but with the societal expectations of being as responsible
as an adult.
For the rest of the evening, we met-up with our friends to go trick-or-treat at the big houses by the water. We went around with them last year and had some great success so we did the same thing this year. They had a family costume theme of the Heelers (Bluey show on Disney).
I loved how the town cops and fire trucks and first aid squads were out patrolling but also stopping to hand-out candy! It was really sweet.
We walked the area for about an hour and finished just before it got dark.
This is Kip's best bud from Pre-K and even though they have not been in
the same class the last two years, they've remained friends, played at
recess, and it seems like they developed a bit of a mutual crush.
Ahhhhhh! Apparently she talks about him non-stop at home.
When we got home, we sorted our candy, passed some out to trick-or-treaters at our door, and I made a festive dinner of mummy dogs.
Great memories were had by all!
P.S. We lost power from 10 pm - 1 am making for a very dark and spooky night.
And now we ring-in the holiday season!!!
