Saturday was another wash out. That's 7 weekends in a row with rain! Kip's soccer game was canceled and everyone was bored and cranky. We headed out for lunch at a fish taco place and even though the waitress messed up the order twice, it was still worth the trip.
We ended up at Hobby Lobby afterwards for 50% Christmas decorations. Ivy has now been blacklisted from going to Hobby Lobby on account of the tantrum she threw over a $30 piece of plastic we had no intention of buying. What is with the toy aisles at Hobby Lobby? They never had three aisles of toys before! And since we were unprepared and I'm a push over, Ivy eventually won. I know I'm the problem and she knows it too. Dan was prepared to haul her out of the store screaming but that just broke my heart. As soon as I gave in, Ivy turned the fit off and said, "I got it. Thank you." That is the definition of "whipped."
At least it proved entertaining for both kids the rest of the afternoon.
On Sunday we went to church and then it was the last week of the Healthy Kids Running Series.
Ivy ran the fastest she has run her whole life and didn't come in dead last!
Kip had his heart set on 3rd place even though we tried to remind him that the trophies were for the top three winners with the fastest times over the course of the whole series (he wasn't even in top 10). He was disappointed but we showered him with praise and pride and he cheered up after a bit.
They each got a medal and I had small surprise trophies made for each of them since we were very proud of them for participating and trying their very best even though competition was heavily stacked against them.
We went out to lunch afterwards and the kids got celebratory sundaes.
Since the weather was finally nice and we were already out, we went to Maple Leaf Farm for their fall fest. It as crowded but spacious and this kids had a blast. The admission was worth it for the pillow jump alone. Kip had the best time jumping and Ivy even caught some air.
The grounds were really muddy but we hit a lot of the attractions (not the corn maze) and made it home in time for dinner.
We are happy to be back enjoying events like this. Ivy is finally getting to experience fun things like Kip did pre-pandemic.
