Peeks from the Week

Hellllloooooo! I'm back. Well, we've been back for a week but busy enjoying the holiday and extended break. I took close to two weeks off of work and I need to figure out how I can do that every summer because it has a been wonderful. Not a vacation exactly, still plenty of "work" being done, but a break nonetheless.

Next week I'll recap our family beach vacation, but for today we'll take a peek at our epic holiday extended weekend.

July 1st was Dan's birthday and we managed a fun day taking the kids mini golfing, grabbing a sweet treat in the heat, back home to open presents, and then going out to dinner as a family. We love you Dan!

We've hit-up the community pool several times in the last week and the water is getting comfortably warm from the hot humid days. The heat can be a beast but it's summer and we're loving sunshine and shorts.

There were supposed to be fireworks over the bay on July 3rd but they were canceled due to rain that never actually appeared. So we went down to the beach anyways and watched the fireworks all over the area from a distance. We enjoyed the unofficial shows and the kids LOVED staying up late.

On the 4th of July it poured rain nearly all day. Our splash pad plans were canceled but we managed a trip to the ice cream store and a little bit of playground time in between storms.

And dinner "outside" in the garage.

Mandy left on the 5th to help the other family she is a nanny for as they were on vacation for a couple of days. We missed her loads but I had the chance to take a day off work and be with the kids solo which doesn't happen often. We crafted and played outside all day.

That night the postponed fireworks were over the bay so we met friends in the park for the show.

It was a great holiday and we are so grateful for all the fun things to do in our area.

Yesterday, I was back at work while Dan kept the kids busy. Later in the evening, we packed sandwiches and headed to the pool for dinner and a "night" swim. There ended-up being some immature adult disobedience which resulted in the entire pool getting closed early. Ugh. A couple of people ruined a nice night for everyone which was a bummer but I tried to make it a teachable moment for the kids about following rules and listening to the person in charge. At least we got to swim for a bit.

Today we are waiting for Mandy's return and a sunny weekend ahead.

It's no secret how much I love summer, but this time of year is also very bittersweet. We are approaching the first anniversary of my mom's passing followed quickly by the second anniversary of Dan's dad's passing. July is heavy with grief for our families. But, we are trying our best to make space for both sadness and happiness. Both enjoying life now and treasuring the memories of times past.
