Kip's Diaper Changing Picks
Oh the joy of babies and the constant diaper changes. Kip is a pooper so we change A LOT of diapers every day, and a lot of clothes, and a lot of sheets. Experienced moms, please tell me how to avoid blowouts? It's not even that much junk but somehow it finds its way out of the diaper and up his shirt. And yes, he is wearing an appropriately sized diaper.
TMI.
Anyways, here are our favorite diaper changing essentials.
Kikaroo Peanut Changer. This was a bit of a splurge but Mandy got it for us off of our registry and it has more than paid for itself in convenience alone. I mentioned Kip is a pooper, I don't even want to think about the number of times we would have to wash a pad cover if we went with the fabric covered changing pad. Easy to wipe off is the way to go. Plus it is cushy so hopefully comfortable for Kip since he spends a lot of time laying on it.
Oxo Tot Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser. The picture above shows the inside of the container with the weighted green piece that assists you in pulling up an individual wipe instead of a huge clump of wipes. The seal keeps the wipes moist and its just all around easy to use. You just put a little pressure on the lid and it pops open. Perfect for those one-handed changes when you need one hand to grab a wipe and the other is holding the baby's feet and keeping them off the dirty diaper.
Babyganics foaming hand sanitizer. Any sanitizer will do but we like this brand because it lasts forever and you can buy a bulk bottle for refilling the pump. No alcohol and non-scented.
Aquaphor 3 in 1 Diaper Rash Cream. Kippy occasionally gets a red bum. He hasn't had a full diaper rash yet but any sign of redness and we put this thick white cream on and it keeps it under control. Is it the best out there? I have no clue, but it works for us. This stuff is super thick and sticky so you're going to want to get the cream brush (see below). We also use regular Aquaphor and it works well too.
BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush. This diaper cream applicator brush is genius. Necessary? No. But it really helps apply the sticky diaper cream to the bum area without it getting all over your hands. It also has a suction on the end so it can easily stand up without getting knocked over. They have a travel size too that comes with a little case. I want it.
And as an added bonus, those items I've purchased in an effort to address the frequent blowouts.
Kip's Picks for Messy Diapers
Puppy training pads. Yes, we use puppy training pads and trust me, they work. We put one down on the changing pad and we put one in between Kip's crib sheet and the waterproof mattress cover. It doesn't prevent the leaking but it saves us from a pretty good amount of clean-up. They are also great to use as an emergency changing pad.
Doggie doo bags work great for stashing the dirty diapers. These can be easily tied off and tossed or we fill the bag with a few diapers before tossing. I opted out of an actual diaper pail because Mandy is firmly opposed to those and she has had much more experience with them than us. So I took her advice. Since Dan takes all the garbage out every night, these bags work for us. I got a bundle of 12 rolls for like $2 at Face Values. We have a roll in Kip's diaper bag for when we are out and we have used them to store blowout clothes when we've had to do an outfit change while out. Super convenient.
Sposie Diaper Doublers. You guys, this is basically a maxi pad that you stick inside the diaper to provide added absorbancy. It's mainly meant for overnight wet diapers but I bought them thinking the concept would work for poo too. We slip this in Kip's diaper before bed since most of his blowout issues happen when he is laying on his back. Also, the kid isn't phased at all to sit in a dirty diaper. He doesn't care and won't inform us (by crying) that he needs a change. Since he still isn't eating many solids, he diapers still don't stink so many times we have no idea he is dirty until we get him up in the morning and the sheets and jams are nice and dirty too. These pads have saved us a few times. Are they a game changer? No. I'd say they've spared us about 50% of the time.
BabyBackups Diaper Extender.
These little guys are a little absorbent pad that have adhesive that
you stick to the top back of the diaper. It extends above the back of
the diaper by about an inch and has worked effectively when we have a
mess that creeps up the back. It doesn't provide full coverage but it
has saved a few outfits. And ya'll, we're desperate so we'll take
anything that works even a little.
Happy diapering! Oh, and please, if you have some experience in this blowout department please give me all your tips.
