So Long Paci

Simultaneous to the kitchen project, Ivy decided she was ready to give up her pacifier. Can you believe it??! Kip dropped his paci right around 3 1/2. Ivy is well over that age. Although we'd been talking to Ivy about it for awhile, we were not forcing the issue because we really didn't want to do anything that would trigger any additional emotional turmoil for her. Three has been a tough age.

But, about three weeks ago Ivy independently said she was ready for the paci fairy to come so we did the same thing we had with Kip. She picked some toys she wanted, we wrote a note to the paci fairy, and then for the next few nights we dropped one pacifier at a time. Ivy slept with 4-5 pacifiers in her bed. One went in her mouth and she held the others in her hands. On the last night she put the last paci next to her note and then went to sleep.

The next morning the paci fairy had taken all the pacifiers and left a note along with her requested gifts.

Can you believe there are actually some unicorn toys and accessories Ivy didn't already have?! I know, shocker. She also got some cake mix to make cupcakes to celebrate.

Anyways, it has been almost two weeks without pacis and Ivy is doing great!!! She takes much longer to fall asleep at night but once asleep she does pretty well throughout the night. This was the same for Kip so I expect just a few more weeks of adjustment and she will be able to fall asleep more quickly. We are super proud of Ivy but my heart is still sad. The pacis were the last physical remnant of babyhood so now I'll leave you with some photos of baby Ivy and her pacis so you can cry with me.

I popped that paci in her mouth the day she was born and she took to it right away.

Ugh, my little baby!!! And for the second gut-punch...I register her for Pre-K in a couple of weeks.
