It feels like summer is just around the corner and although it is my absolute most favorite time of year, I'm feeling really bittersweet about it. I know it will be different. It may even not feel like summer at all. I'll be on maternity leave and there is some major advantages to that but at the same time we won't be able to do the things we love about summer in NYC.
No Governors Island
No playgrounds
No zoos
No Storybook Land
No splash pads
No trips to see family
No family visitors
No ice cream walks
No beach
Even if some of these things reopen at some point this season, will it be safe to bring a newborn? All of it is a tiny price to pay for the safety of the city and our own health, but it's still a loss.
This weekend we had some nice weather for a change. The parks in New Jersey reopened but we decided to go back to our abandoned parking lot so we could have a picnic and let Kip scooter and do bubbles and sidewalk chalk.
We were even able to get some ice cream/refreshments at McDonald's for a treat.
And when we got home, a friend dropped of a special treat for the upcoming arrival of baby girl.
It was a delicious chocolate cake that Kip, Mandy, and I enjoyed.
On Sunday, Dan, Mandy, and Kip went for a walk in the morning while I had some time to start deep cleaning the kitchen and fridge (a nesting urge). Later Dan put together the baby bassinet Mandy ordered and we spent the afternoon coloring. It was a relaxing and productive weekend.
