Smash cake made by Aunt Mandy
Kippy loved us singing Happy Birthday to him. He loves music and all of us were standing in front of him serenading him. He waved his hands around and was very excited.
We decided not to throw a big birthday party for Kip this year with loads of friends and activity. I debated it for awhile wondering if I would regret not doing that for his first birthday. Ultimately, we decided to just keep it small with my parents and sisters in-town. It ended up being simple and sweet and a special time for just us. Dan called his parents on video chat so they were able to participate as well! Both sets of grandparents and aunties, a perfect guest list.
After singing, we blew out the candle and let Kippy inspect his cake. He loves to eat so I assumed he would dig right in but he was actually very hesitant and carefully poked at the sprinkles and dipped his fingers in the frosting. Dan eventually helped him out by guiding him to "smash" the cake. He did eat several bites before losing interest. We, of course, saved the cake for later.
After cake, Kippy opened some of his presents and it was clear that the better idea was to spread the presents out over the weekend because he was overwhelmed with all the new things. I'll share some of those photos tomorrow. He was showered with so many fun new things to play with. I'm excited to play with them too!!
It was a really sweet little celebration and just the right amount of birthday for him. I was very happy with how everything worked out and he seemed happy too.
Happy First Birthday little Kippy. We love you SOOO much!
