Weekending it

It was a dreary weekend with rainy leftover weather from hurricane Ian. Aside from Kip's swim lesson, the kids never left the house. In some ways, mellow do-nothing weekends are nice. PJ slow mornings, movies all day, simple play. It's a good thing and I am grateful for our warm and cozy home. But, I'd be lying if it isn't hard to not see the sun for days. Even the kids notice and it shifts their moods.

It is raining here again today and it looks like there are still two more days of gross weather ahead. Blah. What a way to welcome fall. Remind me again why people are obsessed with this season so much?

Kip convinced Dan to get him a cheese-bur-gerer for lunch on Sunday.

I made a sight word train for visual practice.

And Kip did "worky" for a large part of weekend. Kip's worky is his own idea of what adults do when they work. Random writing and such. He was SO into it and it is great practice for him on his own terms, so we are happy to play along. On Sunday afternoon he pretended to be the teacher and taught me letters and sight words.

There were "costumes" and lounging and messes to boot.

We did all the chores, meal planned for the month, and Mandy and I went to the mall in Staten Island. We had not been back to that mall since a couple of weeks before the pandemic hit in 2020. It was a strange kind of nostalgia because it felt super crowded and totally normal except the last time we were there the world was different. I was pregnant, Kip was only two, and our mom was with us. It felt like a lifetime ago.

Happy Monday.
