When Mandy and I were back in Colorado along with Jess, my Dad wanted us to plant and apple tree together in memory of Mom. It was a really great idea and a wonderful experience for us all to do together. We had a beautiful fall day filled with sunshine and white butterflies.
We went to the tree farm together and picked a tree, along with some forsythia bushes to also add to the yard.
When we got home, Dad had a spot in the yard and we dug the hole together. Even Maggie helped!
We spread some ashes and put the tree in its new home. It's a hybrid tree which is actually two trees twisted and grafted together. Apparently you need two trees in order to produce fruit (one to pollinate the other), so this is how they accomplish that with only one tree.
We used to have two apple trees in the backyard here all while we were growing up. One is long gone and the other will be cut down later this fall. Mom's tree will grow beautifully in their place.
