Kippy || 10 Months Old

On Sunday, Kippy turned 10 months old!! We are in the home stretch of his first year and I am both excited and devastated. It's all going so fast and I almost don't even recognize him in his newborn photos. He is such a little boy now!

Things I want to remember about Kippy at 10 months:
- The way you still kick your legs and flail your arms when you are on your back, just like when you first figured out how to at a few months old.
- Your clingy phase this month when you insisted on touching me at all times. It felt nice to be needed even if it came with screaming and crying when I left your side
- When I taught you High-Five and you respond to it on command now (ok, 40% of the time). It's my favorite baby trick and it's so fun
- The time you figured out how to click the stacking cups together in the bathtub and remembered how to do it the following night. You're learning!
- When you started noticing facial features and grabbing at things like noses and mouths
- How "into" fabric you are. Pulling down laundry piles just to pass shirts and pants back and forth.
- The way you say "ahhhh maaaaaa mmmmm" noises when eating. Must be yummy!
- You are just starting to get interested in books, looking at them and even listening to them on occasion. So much fun ahead!
- Smacking your lips and clicking your tongue.
- Your slobbery Darth Vader-like breathing from how full your mouth is with teething drool.
- How absolutely elated you are when Mandy arrives. You give pretty big smiles for Daddy too.
- The way you still put your hands up on your head when you get sleepy and to self-soothe. I sort of hope you always do this.
- Your corn silk hair, finally starting to grow-in.

Please note, the majority of these photos are of his back end. He is constantly on the move and has very little time to pause for a photo. Let's just call them action shots.

My little man, you are getting SO big and although my heart aches to hold your tiny newborn self, I'm super excited for what's ahead. You are so full of life and curiosity and adventure. What will you discover and learn to love next?

This month you continued to grow and change and experience new things. You noticed dogs. You started pulling to a stand. You are unstoppable now! Your started listening and responding to commands and you seem to know your name now. You got one new tooth on the bottom and your top front two just broke through. You've collected many bumps and bruises as a result of your fearless spirit but that hasn't stopped you. You dive face first into many new foods and embrace new people and new places with curiosity and just enough timidity. We celebrated your first Mother's Day, went to the eye doctor, experienced a long subway ride with Mommy, and had little friends over to play. You tried a music class with Aunt Mandy and played with bubbles for the first time. We had an overnight trip to New Jersey and moved you up into a big-boy car seat! We are headed into your first summer and I have a sense that you're just gonna love it.

Sleep:
Oh boy. Sleep was a bit of a mess this month. For some unknown reason, Kip started waking up between 4-5 am. He will only go back to sleep after I nurse him. In my opinion, that's still night nursing. So, after five months of him consistently sleeping from 6 pm to 6/7 am without nursing - now we night nurse. I don't know why this started happening but as long as he goes back to sleep until 6/7 I'm okay with it. He doesn't nurse much during the day anymore so I'm grateful he gets nice and full during that early morning feed. Naps are about the same, typically 2-3 naps each about 40-60 minutes.

Eat:
Kippy LOVES food and is getting pretty good at self-feeding. We still spoon feed things like yogurt and oatmeal but everything else he puts into his mouth on his own. He especially loves pasta and vegetables. He will eat fruit but doesn't seem to like it as much as vegetables. He is a mega fan of dairy and gets so excited by yogurt and cheese. He also loves hummus and anything crunchy. He was recently introduced to goldfish crackers by a toddler friend who was generously sharing. He loved them and as I frantically Googled if it was ok for a 10 month old to eat, he was happily crunching away. Food still really stresses me out but I'm trying to just relax and let him lead. Offer fruits and veggies but trust he is eating what he needs. He nurses or bottle feeds 3 times a day. Once in the morning, once after his afternoon nap, and right before bed. I reduced my pumping and now only produce just want he needs. We are winding down with the nursing and it feels bittersweet.

Play:
As soon as Kip could crawl, he found so much freedom and happiness, and he is one busy little guy. He also started pulling-up which also brought more freedom and more things to reach. He plays so well independently with something as little as a tissue or a pair of pants. He also loves to play with his toys and especially with Dan by knocking over towers that he builds for him. He is pretty cute with little friends and he does seem to like the company of others. He is so curious and clever and has figured out how to get at pretty much whatever he wants, alarming us with his ingenuity many times. We packed away his baby jumper as it wasn't keeping him content anymore and he strongly opposes being contained. Bath time is still his most favorite of all and he is crazy daring in the water. Don't you dare take your eyes off this bubba for one second!

In just two short months we will have a one year old and the baby days will be over. It's all gone so fast and been an absolute miracle to watch a tiny helpless baby grow into a little active boy. A true whirlwind. I'm hoping we can really soak in these last two months and jump happily and expectantly into life with a toddler. I love you little man, thank you for being such a joy.
