Weekending it

This weekend our main event was going to the Touch-a-Truck at the local high school. Apparently, these type of events are common in the suburbs? We'd never heard of one before but Kip had a great time.

There was a person dressed as Elmo in bunker gear and Ivy was shockingly excited to see Elmo and was brave enough to even touch his hand. She has taken an interest in Elmo lately (playing with Kip's tickle-me-Elmo) and this in-person interaction was really sweet. Kip wanted NOTHING to do with Elmo.

While we were walking around, we heard a helicopter overhead and were surprised to watch it land right in the baseball field next to parking lot where we were. We were less than 100 feet away from it. It was cool but really kind of scary as it was incredibly loud and was flinging up all kinds of dust as it landed. It was a NJ State Trooper helicopter. Later, we got to check it out up close.

Overall, we were really impressed with the event and the kids had a good time. We've really appreciated all the fun local events this fall. Everything has been outside and we've felt comfortable with the amount of people in attendance. Events like this or a trunk-or-treat would have been massively overrated and crowded in Brooklyn and we wouldn't have even attempted to attend. Having stuff like this within walking distance of our house has just added to the perk.

Snip-its of School

Kip's teacher shared some classroom photos this week and I snagged a few to share.

Last week all the Pre-K classes walked to the local fire station and had a little tour. Kip was initially scared because he thought they would spray him with water. Of course, they didn't and he had a good time.

Right now the class is doing a unit on family and they arranged the classroom into a house with each center being a different room. Evidently, Kip likes doing laundry and ironing.

Isn't this the sweetest photo?

Kip's teacher said he is a "local celebrity" and splits his time among both the boys and the girls in the class. Every day they have a 45 minute recess with the other Pre-K classes and Kip has made friends with several kids not in his immediate class. He is such a social butterfly and Dan and I are sort of astounded since neither one of us were like that as kids.

I am glad he is enjoying school so much even though he tells us nearly every day that he's not going.

Weekending it

In a turn that is completely out of character, I'm actually really enjoying this fall season! The weather has been consistently lovely and we are only just now seeing some colder days. This past weekend was beautiful and we spent a lot of time outside in the driveway and over at the park.

We are also really enjoying all the fall festivities in our area. This past weekend the local sports association hosted a trunk-or-treat. We took the kids by right before dinner on Sunday and it was a perfect little event for them.

Kip wore his train costume from last year and added a witch hat. Mandy got Ivy an adorable strawberry costume and Ivy was FEELING IT. Girlfriend loves costumes and she was so lively and energetic and enjoying the event in her berry get-up. She also loves to collect things so being able to pick a piece of candy and put it in her bag was right up her ally. I'm excited for actual Halloween with her and taking the kids around the neighborhood.
