House Tour - Laundry Room

Okay, so for most people they are probably rolling their eyes. Laundry room tour??? LAME. I get it. BUT, in my entire adult life I have never had a laundry room. City living means laundromat life. It means hauling your dirty clothes down the block in the granny cart and losing some socks or undies along the way. It means using coins or a laundry card to pay for your washing. It means waiting for enough machines or extending the amount of time it takes to do your loads while you wait for an available dryer. It means timing your laundry duty for hours when you're off work and the laundromat is open and then hoping it's not too crowded. It means folding your drawers next to a stranger. It is not fun.

Even in our most recent apartment where we had a laundry room in the building, it was not convenient. Mandy would do Kip's laundry on Friday morning, early. Dan would do our laundry on Sunday night after Kip was asleep. It was multiple elevator rides to the basement, back and forth and sometimes not being able to do it all at once if some of the machines were in use or broken. Then during the pandemic it got even more complicated with the added layer of using shared spaces, wiping down machines with Lysol wipes, and wearing masks.

So, the laundry room in this house is a true blessing.

Mandy replaced the machines when we moved in with Speed Queens. They are the most similar to the laundromat machines us city dwellers were used to and Mandy wanted to avoid the 'smart' machines with loads of settings. They are amazing. So simple and efficient.

I do the laundry now. On Mondays while at work. And I love the ability to run a load whenever...like after a spill or blowout. No more waiting until Sunday. We love it.

Now, for the reveal. This tiny laundry closet is upstairs by the kid's bedrooms so it's super convenient. The cabinets and shelves were already in place when we moved. Mandy painted the room a fresh white and added the gingham wallpaper and wall decor. It's a happy place. She did such a great job with it.

There is even a mini closet inside the laundry room where we are storing some cleaning supplies and the vacuum.

  1. This is awesome! I love home tours-- even of laundry rooms! I'm loving the bright white walls and I've heard great things about Speed Queens. (Making a mental note to myself for whenever my machines go on the fritz).
