Weekending it

This week has scrambled my normal routine and thrown everything off. But, finally recapping our weekend!!

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit and it was super fun because Kip's personality is blooming and he is learning to walk and just overall fun to be with!

Unfortunately, Kippy had the start of a cold on Saturday so he was pretty clingy. But we got out for a walk, visit to the park, and some playtime back at the apartment.

On Sunday, the sun disappeared again and I'm hoping we'll see it again at some point this week. Ugh! Honestly, this transition to fall this year has been really bad. Temps swing wildly and we go 4-6 days without seeing much of any sun. It's really depressing.

Anyways, despite the crummy weather we adventured over to Staten Island to check out the zoo there. It was great! We basically had the place all to ourselves and it was just the right size for Kip.

I had to work Monday so my time with Terri Mom and Allen Dad got cut a little short but we had a wonderful and mellow visit with them just hanging out and watching Kippy play.

Fall Bucket List

Ugghhh. What part of fall means zero sun? We have literally had only moments of sunshine in the last two days. Oh Mr. Sun? Sun? Mr. Golden Sun! Please shine down on me!

Sharing our Fall Bucket List today:

Sorry the photo isn't great but it was hard to get good lighting over the chalkboard.

The list feels a little ambitious since it's already the end of September. BUT, technically fall officially starts this weekend so we'll see how much we can squeeze into the next month.

Summer Bucket List recap

Fall officially arrives this weekend even though we've had plenty of fall-like days already. You know I just adore summer so much and it's so hard to say goodbye to the freedom and the sun and the adventuring. But, when the sun has come out only 3 of the last 10 days, there's not much you can do but embrace the present season. So, as good a time as any to recap our Summer Bucket list.

We got SO close to checking everything off. Just one movie date that Dan and I never had a chance to cash-in. But we just rolled over to our Fall Bucket List instead.

We went to Governor's Island twice this summer. Once with Jessy that included a surrey bike and once to meet up with friends from church. We wanted to go more but the weather and timing never cooperated. But we do plan on heading back this fall as well. It's really has developed SO much in the last few years and it is one of my favorite city destinations.

Last summer Dan's family got me an ice cream machine for my birthday. Three days later Kip was born and our freezer was immediately filled with frozen breast milk and literally no room for the ice cream machine bowl. So this summer we made homemade vanilla ice cream and it was a real treat. Not to mention affordable! I plan on making butter pecan for a fall treat!

We enjoyed our weekend trip to Philadelphia and discovered some pitfalls to traveling with a baby.

Dan and I took Kip to the Prospect Park Zoo one summer afternoon and it was a really special family outing.

We went to Pig Beach BBQ with my family while they were in town for Kip's birthday. Yum!

Kippy went to one pool and visited the splash pad twice. He LOVED the splash pad and I'm looking forward to more water fun next summer.

Dan and I escaped for the day to Asbury Park enjoyed celebrating our anniversary with a trip to the Jersey shore.

Plenty of ferry rides to Governors Island, Brooklyn Bridge park, and even the Staten Island ferry.

And loads of picnics all summer long.

We had a really packed summer with so many more things not even on our list! Exploring Long Island, trip to visit family in Kansas, adventuring in New Jersey, US Open, Dan's birthday, Mandy and my birthday, Kip's first birthday, family visitors, hot sweaty walks, bike ride, park dates, ice cream store, carousel rides, Broadway, and so much more! We love you summer! Please keep warming our hearts for the long winter ahead!

Weekending

This past Friday Dan went on a date to see Come From Away on Broadway. His parents got me tickets for my birthday and I was really excited to see this show because of all the great reviews and because it was something different.

The show is based on true stories and takes place on 9/11 and the days after when hundreds of international flights were diverted to a tiny town in Newfoundland when the United States air space was closed after the terrorist attacks. It's a cast of 12 plus a band and everyone is on stage for the vast majority of the show, all playing multiple characters. It was beautiful and heartwarming and one of my new favorites for sure! Thanks Terri Mom and Allen Dad!

On Saturday the sun finally came out! We took Kip to a friends birthday party at a local park. Kippy is at that tough age when he wants to do everything but he really can't just yet and gets very frustrated. Poor guy, just wants to fly.

Sunday was church along with a lunch date with cousin Kourtney!

Sunday, Dan and I killed it with our team work! Sundays are always long and busy but we buckled down and Dan did all the laundry and I went grocery shopping all before 10 am. That left us with loads of time after church to go on a long walk with Kip and a relaxing evening together. Worth the early effort for sure!

Weekending

This past weekend Dan and I took Kippy on his first real bike ride. We got a baby bike seat for Dan's birthday and hooked it up to his bike. We finally had an opportunity to try it out on Saturday.

First family bike ride!

We decided to walk our bikes over to the promenade along the water. I was too scared to have us ride on the streets with Kip. Kippy wasn't too fond of the new seat. He wanted to lean forward which made the straps rub but eventually once we got going he seemed fine...at least from what I could tell as I rode behind Dan.

We rode all the way to the Verazzano Bridge and then stopped for a little break when Kip started crying.

He much preferred to just practice walking.

He then fussed most of the ride back and I ended up carrying him the rest of the way once we got back on the streets.

Overall, it was fun and I think he'll warm-up to it after a few more rides. Later that afternoon we stopped by our friend's block party. They just moved to the neighborhood and we are glad they are just a few blocks away!

Sunday was a long day at church. Both Dan and I were serving for the Fall kick-off so we were there from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. Kip was a trooper despite terrible naps and we somehow still managed to go grocery shopping as well!!

This week has been pretty miserably glum. We honestly haven't seen the sun in a week. Just overcast, rainy, humid, and fluctuating temperatures. What a way to end summer.
